Chrons Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). IBD means that there has been chronic inflammation in the GI tract. Both forms of IBD can affect men and women and can become an issue at any age. Causes of IBD include genetics (family history of IBD), environment and a suppressed immune system. A history of IBD can increase chances of developing gastrointestinal cancers.
Symptoms of IBD include:
- Frequent diarrhea
- Abdominal Pain
- Blood in stools
- Weight loss
From a naturopathic perspective, our goals at the Nardella Clinic in Calgary involve: Removing environmental, dietary and psychological triggers, optimizing the immune system, while reducing inflammation and to alter gut biome in order to provide a balance in gut flora.
The goals may be accomplished using individualized supplementation to aid in inflammation, symptom management and gut flora, intravenous therapies such as vitamins and minerals and curcumin and investigating and pinpointing symptomatic triggers in environment and food.
