Sports injuries range from severe life threatening to minor injuries. They can result from over use syndromes, improper equipment, accidents, poor training techniques and pushing the body beyond the athlete’s ability. Common sports injuries involve soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains, wounds and bruising. More serious injuries can include fractures, head injury and spinal cord injury.

When soft tissue is damaged, the cells release cytokines that initiate an inflammatory response. Treatments are designed to decrease the inflammation and therefore allow for the healing process.

Athletes can also experience a level of emotional stress that accompanies the expectations that they put upon themselves. Personal positive mental motivation is an important tool for pushing the athletes ability. However, when coaches, parents, or audiences push the athlete too far it can lead to severe consequences.
