Diagnosis and Lab Testing
Diagnosing Lyme disease is, unfortunately, often as complex as the disease itself. If you don’t have the rash, but suspect you may have Lyme disease, you will require the assessment of a highly trained and experienced doctor, as well as diagnostic tests. Our naturopathic doctors in Calgary have this training and experience.
Not all tests are created equal, and not all doctors have the knowledge or experience required to make an accurate diagnosis. The Naturopathic Doctors at the Nardella Clinic in Calgary are ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) members, a group of Lyme disease experts devoted to studying disease and spreading the knowledge they gain. The Nardella clinic’s naturopathic doctors in Calgary also have over fifteen years of experience diagnosing and treating complex illness using naturopathic medicine, including a significant number of naturopathic patients with Lyme disease.
Our Naturopathic Doctors experience is that testing for Lyme disease and co-infections requires a variety of testing methods. Chronic infections can cause suppression of immune markers used with common testing methods. As a result of this additional testing beyond the standard ELISA test offered in Canada a patient may require testing that include:
- T-cell testing
- Western Blots
Additionally, multiple strains of a species may exist and need to be tested for. Our naturopathic doctors in Calgary use a variety of international labs to provide the most effective testing currently available.
